DIY AI training

Munster Bovine offers Ireland's most complete and comprehensive DAFM approved DIY AI training course. The course consists of two theory days and three practical training sessions. Max 15 students per course.

Programme Content

Day 1 Theory

Anatomy of bovine reproductive tract.
Oestrus cycle and reproductive physiology.
Semen handling and liquid nitrogen training.
Using equipment – Straw selection, thawing and loading guns.
Reproductive tracts from abattoir – anatomy and practicing AI technique.
Animal behaviour and handling – Health and safety.
Biosecurity.
Delivered by Dennis Howard MVB – Technical manager and company veterinarian.

Day 2, 3 and 4 Practical

Expert tuition from experienced technicians and veterinary supervisor.
50 cows available for each session. We are very conscious of the welfare of the cows presented for training.
Students get huge opportunity to practice AI technique under expert guidance.

Planning the breeding season.
Herd Health, nutrition and production diseases.
Heat detection and synchronisation.
Dairy and beef genetics.
The importance of hygiene.
Monitoring performance and managing risk when starting DIY at home.
Legislation.
Delivered by Dennis Howard MVB – Technical manager and company veterinarian.

The majority of the training takes place from September to January.

The cost to the trainee is €500.
